Merry Christmas 2006

We have finally learned what everyone has been talking about when they say your life changes when you have a child. Hudson has been a blessing in our lives since arriving in October of 2005 and we have been surprised at how fast he has grown and how much he has learned this past year.

We have also learned that our training in Pediatrics was essentially a wash. We evidently had no idea about the finer details of raising a child…when to start solids, how much an average 6 month old eats, how dexterous kids are at opening child proof caps even this early (so far, only 1 call to Poison Control!)

Hudson really likes the stairs and this is currently his favorite pastime. He goes up and slides down for hours at a time. He likes water, probably a little too much. Turning off the bath water usually results in showers of tears and every time we go past a trickle of water, he feels he must put his hand in it.

Unfortunately, we have also had to deal with recurrent ear infections with Hudson since he turned 3 months old. He has had one in each ear and a couple bilateral ear infections. We thought that he was turning into the devil, until we learned that he was just sick. Once he is better, we cannot believe how sweet and playful and inquisitive he becomes and we feel sorry for him that he suffers with his ears. These infections unfortunately came around the time of his first birthday and Halloween so we did not get to enjoy those holidays this year with Hudson.

The biggest thing that has happened this year is that Angie resigned her primary care position and is now working full time as a hospitalist at St. John’s. With this new job, Angie hopes to have more time to start decorating our new house. We have made some progress…a lot of the rooms are now painted and we now have more than just a sleeper sofa in our furniture collection. We tried to hire a decorator but all she did was steal some accent pillows and not return our phone calls.

In October, Hudson also had his first birthday. Here is the cake and party pics.

Brian is beginning his third year also at St. John’s and has enjoyed developing and directing a Hospitalist teaching rotation for the medicine residents. Since we now work at the same place, we have the good fortune of now being able to spend more time together as a family since we can now carpool to work when we are on the same schedule.

The weather here has been interesting. We spent many nights in the basement while about a dozen tornadoes that moved through here, thankfully most of them passing to the north or south. We did have some water come in through the hearth room, a small dime sized area that the builder conveniently ignored long enough for us to eventually need the entire hearth room ceiling replaced. Needless to say, this put decorating on hold quite some time while contractors came and went trying to get it all put back correctly.

Next year, we are looking forward to a few more words from Hudson once he gets tubes in his ears to clear these infections. We are also hoping to finish decorating and getting settled in so that we can take some trips to fun places.

And here it is, in what I'm sure will be a Christmas tradition for years to come, the screaming baby in Santa's lap picture.

A Year Old

Well Hudson turned 1 year old last week and boy was it a doosey. Hudson was sick with what seemed like his 5th ear infection, plus he received his 1 year shots, sprouted a couple new teeth, and developed some scrotal irritation from pooping that made diaper changes hell.
Thankfully he survived with the help of some antibiotics and EtOH for his parents. We were well enough to go to Eckert's farm again, the same one where we went to pick the pumpkin the day before he was born.

As you can see, Hudson is walking now. We have video, but dad has not had the time to put it up yet.

The piggy races are about to start and Hudson was excited...to look in the opposite direction.

We also found out that Hudson likes cokes...and can spot them easily from across the room.

Its Supposed to Make This Much Smoke

Hey Lorrie, your post reminded me of the time that Pete would run the boat with the water hose attached. I always wondered if this was "normal" but Pete said it was, cause the manual said so....
Now we know this was money burning inside the tailpipe.

Birthday WishList

A lot of people have been asking what to get for my birthday and I can only think of a couple of things:

1) A tunnel - I put one on the wishlist with some other things that I would like to play with
2) Clothes - size 18 months, I know, I'm a little round in the middle so I don't fit the usual "1 year" old sizes. Sweatshirts or winter stuff I need.
3) Books, even used ones I can tear the pages out of
4) Gift Cards from WalMart or Target which are my favorite stores, if your not talking Home Improvement, in which case Lowes gift cards in excess of $100 are welcome

We can't wait for everyone to come to my party. Mom and dad have been busy de-decorating the house and painting all the walls white for everyone to see. Here is a link to my wishlist if you cannot find it on the sidebar on the right.

Smile

Here are some photos we took recently. We got some new office furniture and here is Hudson doing some quality testing.

We went to Octoberfest here in town and guess who likes bratwurst and sauerkraut.

Like most kids, Hudson likes tunnels.

Dad got to go to Boston on day trip. Here are some photos he took.
Haavud Sqair

The Freedom Trail, 2 1/2 miles of red brick paved history.
Where folks from the Boston Massacre are buried, and other famous Constitution signers.
Here is Sam Adams, famous Beer Maker

Paul Revere, famous horse rider.

John Hancock, famous handwriter.

Paul Revere's Crib

One hoof up means died of wounds sustained in battle. I have no idea how Paul Revere died but the horse must have been pretty courageous.
Old State House, evidently Paul Revere covered the original dome in copper since this was his trade and I guess because he was already in the area.
Some Jewish kids stealing pennies out of a fountain.

This is the church where Revere hung the lamps to warn the British were coming, the Old North Church.

The USS Consitution, Paul Revere also provided the copper for this boat.
Bunker Hill, closed for tuck pointing.

Hot Wing Sauce

Hudson and I went to the zoo again, now that he is feeling better and it wasn't raining. I wanted him to actually enjoy the weather before we are locked in the house by winter storms.

Here's Hudson on a Gorilla, with a little offstage assistance.

Hudson loves the stairs, loves to go "up" and through things, so this tunnel was perfect.

Here we are in the Anteater Trail. This is where he feels most comfortable, firmly attached to daddy's side.

We met Jason and Shelly at the Zoo. We had fun and went to eat french fries and hot wings at Pat's next door to the Turtle Park.

This fell off my car on the way home, if you can identify it, please let me know what it is and if its important. Hint: I think it has something to do with the exhaust, and perhaps something to do with when dad dinged it with a hammer back in 1999.

Hudson art....I call this one Spaghetti, but by popular demand, its been renamed Hot Wing Sauce.
