Devastation
Been off the past few days, watching New Orleans sink into oblivion. Sad to see all the places you have known disappear. Medical school looked like the first 2 floors were under water.
It will be interesting to see how the city rebuilds...it will definately take a very long time.

Another Week, Another Ultrasound
Well Angie had her ultrasound for the week. We are still in the >3cm range which is good. I'm currently at work and just got yelled at by a family member. I was just trying to apologize for someone else's mistake actually, you know to "apologize on behalf of the establishment", so I caught all the wrath....called me a demigod...which is new. I think Im going to start a list of the things that people have called me at work:
1) Smart mouthed doctor - I loved this one, b/c I was not being smart at all, and I know how to be smart mouthed.
2) Demigod - this is great, takes me back to Malice, that Alec Baldwin movie where he says "When your praying to god, your praying to me. You want to know if I have a god complex? I am god." We made a mistake and he wouldn't let me be human and apologize for it.
3) Cutesy - pretty much self explanatory.
4) Liar - this also was funny. I told a patient that they had a problem which MAY need surgery in the future. They then asked what time the procedure was. I said that there was no plans yet for surgery. Then they called the family in because "mom was going to surgery". I said there is no surgery planned at this time. Then they family was all upset b/c everyone showed up and mom wasn't going to surgery. Dr. Miller is a LIAR. He told us mom was going to surgery. (I'm not making this crap up either).
* * *
In other news (Angie hates it when I do this because she has to read the blog to find out what "we" are doing these days).
1) Got the braces tightened again Monday as well as Invisaligns for the top teeth.
2) We are signing up for Lamaze classes sometime in September.
3) Changing banks because the other one is changing names anyway and doesn't exist in Arnold.
4) We wait by the phone everyday to hear Cindy's review on the foot massager she is getting for her birthday.
5) Dryer works great all of a sudden :)
That is all I guess. Time to get back to work.

No Birds!
So the dryer guys came out today and I was able to -direct- the project so there would be no more screw ups. The debris seen here is what was clogged in the vent. Evidently they had looked at the vent right next to ours (4 inches away) and saw that it was clear so they called it a day. He actually said "this was our fault". Unbelievable. Anyway, sphincter factor was high when he was using a clothes hanger to pull out the nest.
No birds were harmed in the making of this photo. Phew!

House Photos
House update. Shingles are 90% completed. Most of the windows are in except for maybe 3. Shower has been "placed" but we found out that there is a wall there which shouldn't be.

Its Saturday, Its a Pool, Now with Video
Well we spent a day out at Strawberry Ridge swimming. I'm experimenting with the camera and video so here's a test shot with some editing. Quality is craptacular for your web viewing pleasure.
Also, you may have noticed that I have widened out the blog a bit to give me more room. Sorry if your monitor cannot see it all, its set at 1024 wide. If you can, change your monitor to at least this. Let me know if this doesn't work out for you. Also, I added a way to send emails when the blog is updated. See the bottom right side. Thanks.

A Good News Day + Bye, Bye Birdie
First the good news:
Number 1
Angie called from work today and said that she liked her job. Was listening to classical music in her huge office.
Number 2
This morning when I came to work I was so frustrated because I think of the 16 computers in our office, I got the one that runs the slowest and had the crappiest technology and locked up all the time. This was well known to our office secretary that I thought that "seniority" should not take rank over those that are not even here in the office 5 days of the month. Anyway, I didn't say anything today but for some reason they remembered that it was my birthday today. For that they swapped out my computer and now I have a flat screen speed demon. If you know me, you know what a big deal this is.
Number 3
Angie's last ultrasound showed a cervical length of >3cm which is improved from last time. She is also not having any contractions.
Number 4
I'm off this weekend.

Now for the bad news:
Our dryer quit "drying" and, through my super abilities to diagnose appliance problems, determined that the vent was blocked on the outside. We called the apartement people to help. Unfortunately in the meantime I have seen and heard that we have new baby birds in the vent which is the obstruction. They are supposed to come today to "hook up a blower to the dryer to blow out anything that's blocking it". If you know me, you know what a big deal this is.
I'm afraid to go home.

28 Weeks
I don't know what it is, perhaps the Pediatric training, or something that I've just remembered, but 28 weeks has some sort of magic ring to it.
I think its a milestone in pregnancy that developmental stage in pregnancy where the baby is now considered fully 'developed' but now just has to complete lung maturity and put on fat.
I guess its also the start of the "3rd Trimester" depending on when you started counting (conception age or obstetrical age). Anyway, mother and child are doing well (this is code for Zzzzzz). Last night while we were going to sleep Angie started laughing because Hudson was moving around so much. For the first time, I was able to feel something moving inside other than just "bumps", felt something like a leg or hand moving around inside. Cool..yet wierd.

Angie's new clinic is also going well without any major hangups yet. Also, the video camera came in the mail and seems to work pretty good. I was thinking that this website will not be able to support much video...as it stands I have to delete the old photos every time I post a new one. May look into some web hosting if I can find a good deal to host the videos. That will be decided later though.
From the pregnancy website:
This is day number 196 and you're 28 weeks pregnant! You have 84 days or 12 weeks left, and are 70.0% of the way there.
-----------------------------------------
I'm working this week Mon-Fri so not as bad, but then do my nights shift starting Tues-Fri of next week. Haven't heard anything about the house this week with the storms that came through. This is about it. Nothing else going on here today. Next ultrasound is Thursday. I'll keep you posted.

Who will finish first, the baby or the House?
Side view, can see that Hudson is going to have a Rabalais nose. Everything seems to be well. Angie's cervical length is holding in at 2.7cm, a mere 10mm from full bedrest...but at least stable.
House photo from front, they are about to finish the top obviously and prob roofing and stuff will commence in the next few weeks.

Angie checking out the dimentions of the shower insert...our first impressions...hmm, maybe too small for the both of us...but then we realized that the days of couples showers are soon to be over.
Side view of the house. Can see the bathtubs sticking out the 3rd car garage.
Well, its my birthday today. 31 years old. Interestingly, when I woke up this morning I had a backache. I thought that when you got older these things just snuck up on you but I guess they dont. Day 1 and BAM, already bones hurt.
Thanks everyone for the cards and letters. Also, a most pleasant thanks to those who do not call at 5:30am to see if you can be the first to call. God bless you. We are going to do some driving today, get Angie's clinic up and running for Monday. Got to get to bicycles moved out of Debbie's house too.
A typical day off...
